The primary objective of the SANB service is to prevent online fraud by verifying the beneficiary’s identity and reducing the risk of errors when entering the recipient’s IBAN code. Additionally, this functionality can help minimize erroneous transactions caused by incorrect data entry.


When entering the IBAN code in the payment screen for lei, partial information about the payment beneficiary will be displayed, specifically:
- the initial of the last name and the full first name;
- the IBAN code (related to the lei payment accounts opened at our bank).

If the payer notices discrepancies between the information presented by the bank and the information they possess, they may choose not to authorize the transaction.

The display of information does not in any way affect the process of initiating the payment operation and its execution by the bank. The execution of the payment order will be carried out based on the beneficiary's IBAN provided by the paying client, without the bank verifying the consistency between the name/designation of the payment beneficiary filled in by the client and the information presented through the SANB service.

SANB is available in collaboration with TRANSFOND and other participating financial institutions, managed by the Romanian Banking Association. To check the complete list of banks participating in SANB, please access the link available here.

The Beneficiary Name Display Service is provided to banks connected to the Interbank Payment Clearing House (on a subscription basis) by the Fund Transfer and Settlement Company (“TRANSFOND”) and can only operate if the participating banks exchange the necessary data to display the information mentioned above.

The personal data transmitted by the Bank to TRANSFOND is stored and periodically updated by it until the termination of the business relationship with the Bank. The basis for processing is the legitimate interest of Banque Banorient France S.A. Romania Branch and TRANSFOND, as associated operators.
Participating banks and TRANSFOND (which manages the common database of SANB) will process the information of the data subjects as associated operators, as defined in EU Regulation 679/2016 on data protection (“GDPR”). They have established their roles and responsibilities regarding compliance with GDPR obligations, particularly those related to the confidentiality and security of personal data, through a written agreement.

The basis for processing your personal information is the legitimate interest of the financial institutions participating in SANB to provide a tool for preventing fraud and reducing the number of errors in interbank transactions conducted through electronic payment applications.

The period for storing personal data in the context of SANB - the processed personal data (full first name, initial of the last name, and the IBAN code of the account) will be stored in the common database managed by TRANSFOND and will be available to other SANB participants and their clients as long as you are a client of our Bank and the Bank maintains its status as a SANB participant.
In accordance with EU Regulation 679/2016 on data protection, the rights guaranteed to you concerning the processing of your personal data within SANB are:
To access: you can obtain information relating to the processing of your personal data, and a copy of such personal data;


To rectify: where you consider that your personal data is inaccurate or incomplete, you can require that such personal data be modified accordingly;

To object, to restrict or to erase your personal data. Regulatory requirements, contract execution or legitimate interest may limit or cancel these rights;



To data portability: where legally applicable, you have the right to have the personal data you have provided to us be returned to you or, where technically feasible, transferred to a third party.

The right not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing, including profiling, means that you will not be impacted by decisions made entirely by an automated system without any human involvement. This includes decisions made based on profiles created by such systems.

Please note that while SANB is an additional tool to help prevent fraud and reduce payment errors, it does not replace your own recommended checks regarding the beneficiary’s identity and the accuracy of the IBAN entered.


Furthermore, SANB does not guarantee the complete identification of all fraud cases or improper use of IBANs.

It is important to mention that currently, not all payment service providers in Romania offer this service. Therefore, for RON payments to accounts held at providers who have not yet joined SANB, the beneficiary’s name or designation will not be displayed.
