Aani’s Overview:
Aani is an instant payment platform operated by Al Etihad Payments, a Central Bank of the UAE subsidiary.
Aani will enable full-connectivity of all users, businesses, corporates, government entities and financial institutions, and full-inter-operability of all payment services in the UAE. Aani will allow digital payments to be executed instantly to anyone, any businesses, any entities, any financial institutions, on a 24*7 basis.
Aani aims at modernising the payments infrastructure of the UAE, increasing financial inclusion across all segments of the society, and ultimately achieving a cash-less society. It comprises a series of new payment features and services where some of them are one of the first among many advanced markets, such as Proxy Payments, QR-code based payments, Request to Pay, electronic Direct Debit Authorization, and fully digital cheques.
To allow users to familiarise with Aani’s features in a controlled manner, Aani will support payments of up to 50,000 AED at the initial stage.

What are the key services offered by Aani to individual customers?
The key services offered by Aani include an innovative mobile application, that supports fund transfer using only a proxy reference such as the mobile number or email address of the beneficiary, QR-code based payments, request to pay, electronic direct debit authorisation, instant direct debit payments, and first-of-a-kind end-to-end digitised cheque, that can be issued, cleared, and settled instantly.
What are the key advantages of using Aani?
Aani offers a convenient, secure, and user-friendly way to transfer and settle fund anytime, in less than 10 seconds, based on the latest international standards and security measures.
What are the differences with other existing payment solutions (e.g., e-wallets, mobile applications, payment cards)?
Aani offers users a secure and user-friendly platform to access innovative services including proxy payments (using a beneficiary’s mobile number or email address), QR-code based payments, request to pay, and future services in the pipeline, enabling customers to experience the full potential of digital payments.
Unlike many e-wallets, Aani enables instant cross-financial institutions and cross-payment service providers payments by any end-users, including government entities, corporate, merchants, and individuals. It can also be considered as an alternative of debit card payments for merchants and online shopping, leveraging real-time, 24*7, processing.
Can Aani be used to pay for Government services, utilities, and e-commerce?
Yes. Aani enables instant fund transfers to a diverse range of beneficiaries and facilitates secure payments for various services, from government payments and bills to online shopping and in-store purchases.
Will there be more services, functionalities and features available in future? If yes, what is the timetable of availability?
Aani will continue to introduce innovative functionalities, including a digital mandate-based electronic Direct Debit and Authorization system and fully digital cheques.
Can Aani be used for international remittances?
At present, Aani payments are limited to domestic transfers, allowing customers to send and receive money only between accounts held at licensed financial institutions or licensed payment service providers in the UAE, in AED. Nevertheless, CBUAE will continue exploring opportunities to connect with overseas instant payment platforms to facilitate cross-border instant payments, including international remittances.

How can individual customers access Aani services?
Aani services will be made available to individual customers through their licensed financial institutions and licensed payment service providers. Aani services include a user-friendly and secure mobile application, enabling customers to access and utilise all the services offered by the platform. How can individual customers start using Aani services?
In order to use Aani services, licensed financial institutions and payment service providers, with the consent of customers, shall enrol customers on Aani. Once done, customers can then download the Aani application from Google Play or App Store onto their mobile devices. A simple registration and authentication process will allow customers to link their payments accounts to Aani.
Can customer link more than one payment account to Aani mobile application? If yes, how?
Yes, multiple payment accounts can be linked to the Aani mobile application, provided that the different licensed financial institutions or payment service provider, to which the accounts belong, have enrolled the customers on Aani using the same mobile number or ID.

What are the fees and charges for accessing and using Aani services?
Local (AED) transfer fees will be applied for Aani services.
Security and Controls
Are Aani payments secure? What are the security features offered by Aani?
Aani is developed using the latest technology and security tools and infrastructures to ensure that payments can be executed securely and in a well-controlled environment.
All payments will require authorisation to be executed, through biometrics authentication or PIN. Nevertheless, customers are reminded of the importance of information security and should always ensure that they are initiating payments to the right beneficiaries and are aware of and should check the genuineness of the requesters of any payment as well as their transaction history.
If users or merchants are a victim of any security incidents, what should they do to report and contain the impact of such incidents?
If users believe that their account has been hacked, or a payment has been initiated without authorisation, they shall immediately report the event to Banque Banorient France’s Fraud reporting methods available on bank’s website and in branches.
